He is most recognized for his series featuring Cork O’Connor, a character of mixed Irish and Ojibwe heritage. The novels are set in Minnesota, where Krueger resides, and the location plays a significant role in the series. Krueger's debut novel, Iron Lake, which is the first in the Cork O’Connor series, was published in 1998.
