Order of William Diehl Books

William Diehl was an American novelist, journalist, and photographer. He published his first novel, Sharky’s Machine, in 1974, which was adapted into a major film featuring Burt Reynolds. He subsequently wrote the Martin Vail series. Diehl's journey to becoming an author was unconventional; he was fifty and already had a successful career in photography and journalism when he chose to write. Following the success of Sharky’s Machine, he committed himself to writing and relocated to St. Simons, where he completed eight additional novels, including Primal Fear, which was later adapted into a film starring Edward Norton. Diehl passed away in 2006 at the age of 81.
