William Deverell is a Canadian author known for his legal and crime thriller novels, particularly the Arthur Beauchamp series. He began his career as a journalist with the Canadian Press, Vancouver Sun, and Saskatoon Star-Phoenix, which helped him finance his law school education. As a lawyer, he handled over a thousand criminal cases. Deverell also created the TV series Street Legal and works as a screenwriter. He divides his time between Pender Island, British Columbia, and Quepos, Costa Rica. His first novel, Needles, published in 1979, drew from his experiences as a criminal lawyer and earned the McClelland & Stewart $50,000 Seal Award.
