Sue Monk Kidd is an American author known for her women’s fiction and non-fiction works. Raised in Georgia, she earned a B.S. in nursing from Texas Christian University and became a Registered Nurse. After taking writing classes and participating in writers’ conferences, she embarked on a writing career. Initially, she focused on spiritual memoirs before shifting her attention to feminist themes. Her first novel, The Secret Life of Bees, was adapted for both stage and film, featuring Dakota Fanning, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, and Sophie Okonedo. Kidd published her first works in 1987, with the non-fiction books This is the Day and God’s Joyful Surprise: Finding Yourself Loved. She made her novel debut in 2002 with The Secret Life of Bees.
