Stephen Chbosky is an American author renowned for his novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which he also adapted into a film in 1999, serving as both writer and director. In addition to his work as an author, Chbosky has a significant background in screenwriting, having co-written the screenplay for Rent and the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. He grew up in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and later attended the University of Southern California, where he graduated from the screenwriting program. He began his career in independent film before writing The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
