Sally Cabot Gunning is an American writer recognized for her works such as The Widow’s War, Monticello, and Painting the Light. A lifelong resident of New England, her family's lineage in the region extends back three centuries. From an early age, she developed a passion for history, which is reflected in many of her books. Her historical interests go beyond her writing; she is an elected fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society and has also designed several historical tours in her village.
