Roxane Gay is an American author, professor, commentator, and editor. Her work has been featured in various publications, including the Oxford American, McSweeney’s, and the New York Times. She is highly educated, having graduated from the University of Nebraska and earned her PhD in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University. Gay began her academic career as an assistant professor at Eastern Illinois University before becoming an associate professor in the creative writing department at Purdue University. It was during this time that her writing career began to flourish. Although she published a collection of short stories titled Ayiti in 2011, her career truly took off in 2014 with the release of Bad Feminist and An Untamed State. The latter, a novel, received significant acclaim, while Bad Feminist, a collection of essays, made it to the New York Times bestseller list and established her prominence in the literary world.
