Robin McKinley is an American author known for her young adult fantasy novels. Growing up as an only child with a father in the U.S. Navy, she moved frequently, which she credits as a source of inspiration for her writing. A lifelong reader, she connects events, places, and time periods to the books she has read. In addition to her writing career, Robin has held various positions, including editor/transcriber, research assistant, bookstore clerk, teacher, counselor, editorial assistant, barn manager, freelance editor, and full-time writer. Her hobbies include reading, walking her dogs, gardening, cooking, playing the piano, practicing homeopathy, and blogging. Robin has lived in Ohio, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and England, where she resides with her husband, Peter Dickinson. She made her publishing debut in 1978 with the novel Beauty.
