Roberto Ampuero

Roberto Ampuero is a Chilean author and columnist known for his first novel, ¿Quién mató a Kristián Kustermann?, which features the character Cayetano Brulé, a private investigator. Beyond his literary career, Ampuero served as Chile's Minister of Foreign Affairs from March 11, 2018, to June 13, 2019. He married Margarita Flores in 1974, and they lived in Cuba, but their marriage ended in 1977. He remained in Cuba for an additional two years, earning a B.A. in Latin American Literature. Subsequently, he moved to East Germany for a Marxist education and crossed into West Germany in 1983, where he began writing and published his first novel, El Hombre Golondrina. Currently, Roberto resides in Iowa, where he is a professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa.
