Rita Lakin is an American mystery novelist known for her Gladdy Gold series. In addition to her work as a novelist, she has written numerous television shows, mini-series, and TV movies. She created the TV series The Rookies and has contributed to programs such as Peyton Place, Mod Squad, Dynasty, and Strong Medicine. Lakin has received the Edgar Allan Poe Award from the Mystery Writers of America. She began her writing career in 1974 with the novel A Summer Without Boys. After publishing Demon of the Night in 1976, she did not release another novel until 2005, when she introduced her first Gladdy Gold book, Getting Old is Murder.
