Richard Powers

Richard Powers is an American novelist renowned for exploring the impacts of modern science and technology in his works. His notable novel, The Echo Maker, received the National Book Award for Fiction in 2016. He is also the author of The Overstory, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2019. Powers studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, where he obtained his BA and later his MA in Literature, graduating in 1980. He chose not to pursue a PhD, believing that many graduate students and professors lacked joy in reading and writing, a fate he wished to avoid. He made his writing debut with Three Framers on Their Way to a Dance, published in 1985.
