Although he has always enjoyed reading, his interest in crime fiction was sparked by television shows featuring detectives like Inspector Morse and Jack Frost. He believes that certain aspects of writing crime fiction are easier than those of general fiction, yet he dedicates considerable time to character development, which he considers essential in all types of writing. Before releasing his first crime novel, An Accidental Death, in 2013, Grainger had already self-published three novels.
