P.L. Travers (1899-1996) was an Australian-English author renowned for her children's literature, particularly for creating Mary Poppins. She started publishing her poems as a teenager in various magazines while also establishing herself as an actress. After touring Australia and New Zealand, she moved to England in 1924, where she began writing the Mary Poppins stories. Her life and work were depicted in the film Saving Mr. Banks, with Emma Thompson portraying her alongside Tom Hanks as Walt Disney. Travers published her first novel, Mary Poppins, in 1934.
