Order of Nafiza Azad Books

Nafiza Azad is a Fijian author currently residing in Canada. She made her debut in novel writing in 2019 with the young adult fantasy, The Candle and the Flame. Born in Fiji, Azad immigrated to Canada with her family in 2001. Initially, she pursued a major in biology at university but later chose to follow her passion for writing by switching to English. For her thesis, she wrote a young adult novel and earned her B.A. in English literature. The inspirations for The Candle and the Flame are diverse, including the djinn and the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election. The hate and toxic rhetoric prevalent during that election resonated with her as a Muslim, prompting her to create a story set in a world where everyone is accepted and welcomed. The protagonist, Fatima, grapples with deep feelings of trauma and grief while confronting restrictive societal expectations.
