Michael Hambling is an English writer renowned for his DCI Sophie Allen crime novel series. He often sets his stories in the West of England, where he resides, as his knowledge of the region lends them a greater sense of authenticity. From an early age, Hambling developed a passion for reading and recalls visiting the local library four times in a single day as a child to borrow new books. The library enforced a policy allowing children to check out only one book at a time, so he would read his book and then return it.
