Mary H.K. Choi is a Korean-American author renowned for her young adult novels, Emergency Contact and Permanent Record. Besides her writing career, she serves as a culture correspondent for Vice News Tonight and has previously been a columnist for Wired Magazine and Allure. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Choi's family relocated to Hong Kong before she turned one. She spent her early years there until moving to the United States at the age of 14. Choi attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied Textile and Apparel. After graduating, she moved to New York and worked at Mass Appeal magazine, eventually rising to the position of editor.
