Mark Douglas-Home is a Scottish author known for his crime fiction novels, particularly the Cal McGill, Sea Detective series. He has a background in journalism, having served as the editor of Scotland’s leading daily newspaper, The Herald, for five years, and also edited The Sunday Times Scotland. While working as the Scottish correspondent for The Independent, he covered significant events such as the Lockerbie and Piper Alpha disasters. His journalism career began in South Africa, where he edited the newspaper at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. After the apartheid government banned several editions, he was deported. He currently resides in Edinburgh and is married with two children.
