Maria Semple is an American author and screenwriter known for her work on television shows such as Beverly Hills, 90210, Mad About You, Saturday Night Live, Arrested Development, Suddenly Susan, and Ellen. Her father, Lorenzo Semple, Jr., was also a screenwriter, famous for writing the pilot for Batman in the 1960s. Born in Santa Monica, California, Maria's family soon relocated to Spain for a few years before settling in Los Angeles and Aspen, Colorado. She received her B.A. in English from Barnard College. Currently, Maria resides in Seattle, Washington, with her partner, writer/producer George Meyer, and their daughter. She made her debut as a published novelist in 2008 with the book This One is Mine.
