Margaret Sidney was the pseudonym of American author Harriet Lothrop (1844-1924), known for her children's literature, particularly the Five Little Peppers series. She grew up in a culturally rich environment with unrestricted access to her father's vast library. As a child, she frequently invented imaginary characters. Although she continued to write as she matured, she often destroyed her manuscripts. It wasn't until she was 34 that she had a short story published in a Boston children's magazine, where the editor encouraged her to keep writing.
