Order of Lawrence Hill Books

Lawrence Hill is a Canadian author known for both fiction and non-fiction, as well as for his work as a journalist. His writing often explores identity issues, influenced by his background as the child of a mixed-race couple who emigrated from Washington, D.C. in 1953. Although he initially aspired to be an Olympic runner, he never achieved that goal despite extensive training. Instead, he began writing on his mother’s typewriter and completed his first story at the age of 14. Lawrence holds a B.A. in economics from Laval University in Quebec City and an M.A. in writing from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Raised in Don Mills, Ontario, he has lived and worked throughout Canada, as well as in Baltimore, Spain, and France. He currently divides his time between Hamilton, Ontario, and Woody Point, Newfoundland, with his family. Hill published his first novel, Some Great Thing, in 1992.
