Khaled Hosseini is an Afghan-American writer known for his literary fiction. At the age of 11, his family relocated to Paris when his father secured a job there. Due to a political coup that prevented their return to Afghanistan, they sought and received political asylum in the United States, settling in San Jose, California. Besides being a novelist, Khaled practiced medicine for ten years until the success of The Kite Runner. He published his first book, The Kite Runner, in 2003, which became a bestseller and was adapted into a film released in 2007, along with a graphic novel version.
