Jonathan Stroud is a British author known for his young adult and children's fantasy novels. He is the creator of the Bartimaeus series and the Lockwood & Co. series. Growing up in St. Albans, he spent his time reading, writing, and drawing. After experiencing a period of poor health, he often found himself in the hospital or at home with books. He studied English literature at the University of York and later worked as an editor for Walker Books in London, which eventually inspired him to write. Jonathan resides in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, with his wife Gina, who illustrates children's books, and their two children. He made his publishing debut in 1996 with the picture book The Lost Treasure of Captain Blood, followed by his first novel, Buried Fire, in 1999.
