Jon Cleary was a highly successful Australian author known for having many of his books adapted for film and television. His debut book, You Can’t See ‘Round Corners, was published in 1947. He is regarded as one of the most popular Australian authors of all time. Cleary was born in Erskineville, Sydney, where his family faced financial difficulties during his childhood, even experiencing the repossession of most of their belongings at one point. He attended school for a while but left at 14 to help support his family. Cleary later joined the Army, where he began writing and sold his first story in 1940. After completing his service, he wrote his first novel.
