Jeffrey Eugenides

Jeffrey Eugenides is an American novelist and short story writer, renowned for his work The Virgin Suicides, which was adapted into a film, and Middlesex, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2003. Born in Detroit, Michigan, as the youngest of three siblings, he attended Brown University, graduating in 1982. Instead of entering the workforce immediately, he took a year off to travel throughout Europe and volunteer with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. With aspirations of becoming a writer from an early age, he chose Brown University to study the works of John Hawkes. He released his debut novel, The Virgin Suicides, in 1993, which was later made into a movie in 1999 by director Sofia Coppola, featuring Kirsten Dunst, James Woods, and Kathleen Turner.
