Jay Asher is an American author known for his young adult novels. Growing up, he was encouraged to explore various interests, from playing guitar to writing. While attending Cuesta College, he wrote two children's books and decided to pursue a career as an elementary school teacher. He later transferred to California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo but left during his senior year to concentrate on writing. Throughout his career, Jay has held various jobs, including shoe salesman and positions in bookstores and libraries. He made his debut as a published novelist in 2007 with the book 13 Reasons Why.
