Ishmael Beah is a Sierra Leonean author known for his literary fiction and non-fiction works. Born in Sierra Leone, he emigrated to the United States in 1998, where he completed high school. He holds a B.A. in political science from Oberlin College. Ishmael serves on the Advisory Committee for the Human Rights Watch Children’s Rights Division and has addressed numerous non-governmental organization panels regarding the impact of war on children.
