Ian C. Esslemont is a Canadian writer known for his epic fantasy novels. He is the author of the Malazan Empire series and co-created the Malaz world with Steven Erikson. This world was initially developed as a backdrop for a role-playing game before evolving into a series of novels. Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Ian grew up in Winnipeg and has spent time living in Southeast Asia. He currently resides in Alaska with his wife, Gerri Brightwell, who is also a novelist.
