Ernest Cline is an American author known for his science fiction novels and non-fiction works. He is also a spoken word artist and screenwriter. In June 2010, the Crown Publishing Group, a subsidiary of Random House, acquired the manuscript for his debut novel, Ready Player One, which is set to be adapted into a film by Warner Bros. under the direction of Steven Spielberg. His second novel, Armada, is also being developed into a film by Universal Pictures. A self-identified “full-time geek,” Ernie resides in Austin, Texas, with his family, a DeLorean that might fly, and an extensive collection of retro video games. Cline published his first book, the non-fiction work The Importance of Being Ernest, in 2006. His first novel, Ready Player One, was released in 2011 and became a bestseller on both the New York Times and USA Today lists.
