Emily Bronte

Emily Bronte was an English author renowned for her classic novel, Wuthering Heights. She also co-published a poetry collection with her sisters Charlotte and Anne, titled Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell, which features her acclaimed poetic works. At the age of 13, she and Anne began crafting stories about Gondal, a fictional island rich in myths and legends, a theme they would explore throughout their lives. Although much of this early work is lost, it included elements of romanticism and noble savagery that Bronte would later revisit. As an adult, she briefly worked as a teacher but left due to health issues. When Wuthering Heights was first published in 1847, its intense violence and passion led many to believe it was authored by a man. Born in England in July 1818, Bronte lived until December 1848, passing away before witnessing her book's immense popularity. She was gravely ill and so frail that her coffin measured only 16 inches wide.
