Elizabeth Daly was an American author renowned for her Henry Gamadge series, which commenced in 1940 with the publication of Unexpected Night. Throughout her career, she published 16 books in this series. Born in 1878 in New York City, Daly was the daughter of a Supreme Court justice in New York. She attended Bryn Mawr College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, and later pursued her Master's degree at Columbia University. In the earlier stages of her career, Daly contributed light verse and prose to magazines such as Life, Puck, and Scribner’s. Besides her writing, she served as a reader at Bryn Mawr College and tutored students in French and English.
