Edna Buchanan is an American writer known for her crime fiction and mystery novels, as well as true crime non-fiction. Her most recognized work is the Britt Montero series. Buchanan is also a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, having received the award in 1986 for her reporting on the police beat in Miami. Over her 18-year journalism career, which included positions at the Miami Beach Daily Sun and The Miami Herald, she reported on more than 5,000 deaths, including 3,000 murders, and covered various events such as kidnappings, riots, fires, and plane crashes. Buchanan published her first book, the non-fiction Carr: Five Years of Rape and Murder, in 1979, and made her debut as a novelist in 1990 with the standalone novel Nobody Lives Forever.
