Douglas Kennedy is an American author renowned for his bestselling novel, Leaving the World. He grew up in New York and aspired to be a writer from an early age. After attending Bowdoin College in Maine, he moved to Ireland to study at Trinity College. He later returned to America and briefly worked as a stage manager, though not successfully, before embarking on a trip back to Dublin that would significantly impact his life. Upon his return, he co-founded a theatre company, which led to his role as an administrator for the National Theatre of Ireland's experimental theatre. He spent five years there before resigning to pursue writing full-time.
