Diane Ackerman

Diane Ackerman is an American naturalist, poet, and author known for her essay collections. Her notable works include The Zookeeper’s Wife: A War Story, The Human Age: The World Shaped by Us, The Moon by Whale Light, and A Natural History of the Senses. In addition to these, she has written several poetry collections and children's books. Ackerman earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Pennsylvania State University, followed by a Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Ph.D. from Cornell University. She later taught at both Cornell and Columbia. Ackerman has contributed numerous essays to various publications, such as The New York Times, Smithsonian, The New Yorker, and National Geographic. In 2015, she received the National Outdoor Book Award for The Human Age.
