Desmond Bagley (1923-1983) was an English writer renowned for his thriller novels, characterized by their rapid pace and meticulous detail. He began his career in the aircraft industry before embarking on a road trip to Africa, where he lived in South Africa for over ten years. During that time, he worked as a freelance journalist and film critic. In 1964, he returned to England. Several of his novels, including Landslide, The Vivero Letter, The Freedom Trap (published as The Mackintosh Man), and The Enemy, were adapted into films.
