Cynthia Kadohata is an American author known for her young adult and children's novels. Of Japanese descent, she focuses on coming-of-age stories featuring Asian American women. Having spent part of her childhood in the South, she has set some of her works in that region. Cynthia received her B.A. in journalism from the University of Southern California and also attended graduate programs at the University of Pittsburgh and Columbia University. She resides in Los Angeles, California, with her boyfriend, son, and dogs. Kadohata made her novel debut in 1989 with "The Floating World."
