Carlos Fuentes

Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012) was a Mexican novelist and essayist, regarded by the New York Times as “one of the most admired writers in the Spanish-speaking world” in his obituary. He identified as a pre-modern writer, exclusively using pens, ink, and paper. The son of a Mexican diplomat, he later became one himself, serving as ambassador to France. Fuentes made his literary debut in 1958 with the novel Where the Air is Clear and continued to write until his passing in 2012.
