Candice Carty-Williams is a British author who made her debut in 2019 with the novel Queenie, which was later awarded Book of the Year at the British Book Awards, making her the first black woman to receive this honor in the award's history. Raised in South London by a Jamaican father and a Jamaican-Indian mother, her father immigrated to Britain at the age of 16. Carty-Williams began writing later in life and has expressed that she is still working on building her confidence. Besides her novels, she has contributed to various publications, including The Guardian, Vogue, and Refinery29.
