Brenda Buchanan is an American author known for her mystery novels, particularly the Joe Gale series. She grew up in a mill town in Central Massachusetts, where her love for journalism began at age 16 when she co-wrote an article addressing the unequal funding for boys' and girls' sports at her high school, an experience that taught her valuable lessons. While studying at Northeastern University, she worked for the Boston Globe and later became a reporter and columnist for the York County Coast Star in Maine before attending law school. Currently, Brenda balances her career as a lawyer during the day with her writing at night. She resides near Portland, Maine, with her spouse, Diane.
