Arthur Hailey

Arthur Hailey (1920-2004) was a British-Canadian novelist known for his thriller, suspense, and police procedural novels. His works are typically centered around a specific industry, such as hotels, banks, or airlines. He would dedicate about a year to researching the topic, spend another six months reviewing his notes, and then take a year and a half to write the novel. Born in England, he emigrated to Canada and became a citizen in 1947, later relocating to California in 1965 and then to the Bahamas in 1969, where he spent the rest of his life. Hailey began his writing career in 1956 and published his first book, Runway Zero-Eight (also known as Flight into Danger, co-authored with John Castle), in 1958.
