Order of Armistead Maupin Books

Armistead Maupin is an American writer renowned for his Tales of the City series. He claims that his storytelling instincts began to develop at the age of 8. Maupin attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he contributed to The Daily Tar Heel. Early in his career, he worked at a television station run by future U.S. Senator Jesse Helms, whom he once regarded as a hero, though his views have changed since then. Maupin came out as gay at 30 and shortly thereafter launched his Tales of the City series. He became a published author with Tales of the City, which initially appeared as a serial in the Pacific Sun newspaper and later in the San Francisco Chronicle, before being released as a novel in 1978.
