Order of Anne Glenconner Books

Lady Anne Glenconner was appointed as Lady in Waiting to Princess Margaret in 1971, a position she maintained until the Princess’s passing in 2002. In 2019, she published Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown to counteract the negative portrayals of Princess Margaret. Anne was born to Thomas W.E. Coke, the 5th Earl of Leicester, and Elizabeth Mary (Yorke) Tennant, Countess of Leicester. She served as a maid of honour during the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953 before becoming Princess Margaret’s Lady in Waiting. In 1956, she married Lord Glenconner, and they had five children, three of whom are still living. The couple developed the island of Mustique into a luxurious retreat for the wealthy, where Princess Margaret built a residence.
