Alex Morgan is an American author known for her children's sports novels, particularly The Kicks series. She is also a professional soccer player who joined the U.S. women's soccer team in 2011 and participated in the 2011 World Cup. In 2011, she was the first overall draft pick and won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, in front of the largest soccer crowd in Olympic history (over 80,000). Morgan made her debut as a published author in 2012 with the novel Saving the Team, which launched The Kicks series. In 2015, she published her memoir titled Breakaway.
