Alan Hunter (1922-2005) was an English crime fiction author. After leaving school at 14, he worked on his family's farm and enjoyed writing natural history articles for the newspaper, as well as poetry. All of his novels are part of the Inspector George Gently series, with nearly one novel published each year during his active career. Hunter became a published author in 1944 with the release of his poetry collection, The Norwich Poems, which is now out of print. His first novel, Gently Does It, was published in 1955.
