Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani is a Nigerian essayist, humorist, journalist, and, most importantly for our purposes, a novelist. She gained recognition for her debut novel, I Do Not Come to You by Chance, which received multiple awards and was listed among the best books of 2009. Writing plays a significant role in Nwaubani's life, as it does in her family's; her mother’s cousin was Flora Nwapa, the first female African author to publish a book. Nwaubani attended boarding school at the Federal Government Girls College Owerri and later pursued her studies in psychology at the University of Ibadan. She began writing at a young age, earning her first income from writing at 13 after winning a writing competition. After college, she also worked on the editorial team of Nigeria’s now-defunct NEXT newspapers.
